A quiet settlement involving one of Shapiro's aides cost Pa. taxpayers $295,000.
Oct. 27—HARRISBURG — A first-year state lawmaker plans to reintroduce a bill to require making public at least some details of financial settlements like the one that arose from, R-Montgomery, said Friday that a “healthy number” of co-sponsors have endorsed the concept she laid out in an Oct. 18 legislative memo. The bill, she said, will be almost identical to one that passed the House by a 200-0 vote in 2019 but that failed to move in the Senate during a session dominated by COVID-19.
Her memo does not mention Vereb, whose resignation from Gov. Josh Shapiro’s cabinet was announced late last month. But she said “. If the settlement involves a non-disclosure agreement, some personal information could be withheld to avoid inflicting humiliation or invading privacy, Scheuren said.Beth Rementer, a spokesperson for House Democratic leader Matt Bradford of Montgomery County, said the bill would be reviewed after its introduction.
Gov. Josh Shapiro commented about the sexual harassment claims made against a former top aide Mike Vereb at an event in Bethlehem on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023.
