San Jose Sharks’ Marc-Edouard Vlasic will not play again this season after he was injured Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers
San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic will not play again this season after he was injured over the weekend in a game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Vlasic did not travel to Canada as the Sharks finish the regular season on a three-game road trip that starts tonight in Winnipeg. San Jose also faces Calgary and Edmonton on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. With Connor McDavid carrying the puck toward the Sharks’ net, Vlasic, situated beside goalie James Reimer, was upended from behind by forward Zach Hyman as he backed up to try and play a loose puck.
Vlasic, who turned 36 on March 30, had one goal and 17 assists in 78 games this season. Under first-year Sharks coach David Quinn, Vlasic’s average time on ice increased to 17:28 per game, up from 15:13 last season. Also done for the season are injured forwards Alexander Barabanov, Andreas Johnsson, and Oskar Lindblom, Quinn confirmed Monday morning.
For reinforcements, the Sharks on Sunday recalled forward Tristen Robins and defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov. Robins, a second-round draft pick in 2020 and a Clear Lake, Manitoba native, will skate on a line with center Thomas Bordeleau and winger Adam Raska. All three players were selected by the Sharks in the 2020 NHL Draft.
