Disney's sea witch Ursula’s villainy is defended by The Little Mermaid live-action remake's Melissa McCarthy, stating that she is misunderstood.
The Little Mermaid's sea witch Ursula is a misunderstood figure among Disney's pantheon of villains, according to Melissa McCarthy. First voiced by Pat Carroll in the 1989 Disney animated classic, Urusla made a deal with Princess Ariel to give her the chance to walk on land among humans in a scheme to usurp the throne of Atlantica. In the 2023 remake led by Halle Bailey, Ursula's origins are expanded on to provide her character with further development.
McCarthy defended her character, stating that Ursula uses her over-the-top outfits and over-confident, outgoing personality to hide the pain that she has endured and allowed to fester over the years following her banishment. Check out McCarthy's full explanation below:
