Organizers of the National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores are making big plans for a return in October after two years lost to COVID.

Shrimp Fest organizers announced Thursday that they are actively planning to present the festival Oct. 6-9.

“It’s been a disappointing two years, but the committee has held on and I’m working with them closely to fine tune both our existing programs & some new elements,” said Festival Chairman Andrew Hart. “With demand up, we are anticipating this year to be one of our most attended festivals in history.” “From our perspective, our goal is to improve and perfect in 2022,” said Greg Alexander, President & CEO of the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, which presents the fest. “We’re currently working with a national company to bring in new sponsors to the festival. Doing so will not only allow those companies to get exposure in our area, but will also allow them to bring experiences to our attendees that will enhance the overall festival experience.

According to Thursday’s announcement, festival organizers have decided to honor vendor selections made in 2020 and will not take new vendor applications “unless a need should arise.” The festival also will use poster art by local artist Tara McMeans, whose design was selected for the 2020 event.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
