The Cowgirls are making their fourth straight UIL state tournament appearance.
Senior first baseman Reece Redden hopes to bookend her career with another state championship. Redden was a member of the team that won in 2019.D’HANIS — D’Hanis’ path to the UIL state tournament is similar to 2019 when it won the UIL Class 1A state championship.
“Everything that is happening this year is lining up how it happened my freshman year,” said Santos, who was named the championship game MVP in 2018 after defeating Cherino 9-7. “It’s almost like we are back to that winning year, so it helps me feel like the universe is doing something.” “We had a lot of young players last year and just going back with them, I think they have the experience and their nerves are going to be settled a little bit,” senior first baseman Reece Redden said. “It’s pretty nerve-wracking, but I think they are going to be way more confident.”
The Cowgirls are making their fourth straight appearance at the state tournament. It’s a run they began before any of the current team was in high school.“Coming off the run they had the year before we came in helped a lot,” Santos said. “The seniors helped us with the experience they had.”
