San Antonio company's Renubots are riding a wave of growth boosted by incentives in the federal Inflation Reduction Act.
Under the act, according to an association analysis of Wood McKenzie data, there will be more than $600 million in new solar generation investment in the U.S. over the next decade. And by 2032, it says, the U.S. will have 682 gigawatts of total solar capacity — more than five times the amount installed today.
Today, Renu has customers in 20 states. Matus declined to identify clients, however, citing nondisclosure agreements. Generally, he said a major portion of the company’s business is through contracts with municipalities. In recent years, Renu has started working with Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, Matus said.
“I’d love to work with CPS,” he said. “We’re right here waiting for them to help us … grow and stay here. I’ve had lots of offers to move this business somewhere else.”Solar generation makes another big jump in Texas in ’22, but gas is still state’s top power source “It makes it simple for them, so they’re paying on an operational expense standpoint versus paying for the actual full cost on the whole thing right away for a year,” Matus said. “But we do offer it for sale as well.”
“Taking care of the grass was a lot bigger than anyone realized, and he felt we should automate this,” Matus said. “Autonomous mowers made sense.” “Now, we’re talking to people and putting robots in places where there are 4,000 acres,” he said. “The cost of putting rock there … would be absolutely huge.”
