More details on the strategy and related initiatives would come during the summit, U.S. officials said.“Our goal over the next couple of days fundamentally is to meet the Pacific islanders where they live,” said a senior U.S. administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity about the discussions. “They’ve made it clear to us that they want us as partners on the biggest issues.”
“The Solomons have been here,” he said. “They have been deeply engaged in our efforts over the last couple of days, and we expect them to be actively engaged in our meetings over the next few days.”
