Some 280,000 Ram 2500 And 3500 Trucks Could Catch Fire | Carscoops carscoops
Stellantis has revealed that select 2020-2022 Ram 3500 pickup trucks equipped with the Cummins 6.7-liter turbo-diesel engine and 68RFE transmission, and 2020-2023with the same powertrain, may experience a build up of pressure and heat inside the transmission. This could result in transmission fluid being expelled from the dipstick tube which could come in contact with ignition sources within the engine compartment, potentially triggering a fire.
Stellantis says owners of affected vehicles may notice a Malfunction Indicator Lamp on the instrument cluster. The automaker’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization opened an investigation into Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks after becoming aware of a potential trend of engine compartment fires. Stellantis is aware of 16 field reports and 16 warranty claims potentially related to this issue for all markets and while it is not aware of any fatalities related to the issue, it does know about one minor injury.
Owners of impacted models in the United States will be notified on or around December 30. A fix is still being developed.
