. Normani earned her place on the list thanks to a panel of alumni judges including electronic duo The Chainsmokers, rapper 21 Savage, manager Adriana Arce and songwriter Michaela “Mickey” Shiloh.
“It’s really beautiful to know that people see that potential in me, but I think I’m mainly excited for the opportunity to be Normani.”“I like to always feel like I’m pushing the needle,” she explains. “Anytime I feel complacent, I start to freak out. … The moment that you feel too comfortable is when you’ve failed.”
The young impresario offered something that most grizzled veterans couldn’t. S10 is structured as a partnership with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, giving Normani access to the expertise of lieutenants like its cofounder Jay BrownRihanna starting in her teen years. “There are certain artists that you hear on the radio, see on stage or meet that have that special star quality,” says Silverstein, now a 30 Under 30 lister himself, who has added up-and-comers Anitta and Bazzi to his roster. “Normani is one of those artists.”
