Pet Sematary prequel introduces a new piece of lore for how to kill the resurrected creatures, but it affects the rest of Stephen King's World

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Pet Sematary: Bloodlines enters a world with established lore behind it, but surprisingly reinvents how to kill the resurrected creatures in the franchise. Set as a prequel to the well-known film Pet Sematary, adapted from Stephen King's novel, this new take attempts to establish a story for the cautionary tale set forth by King himself.

In the original source material, Timmy Baterman is the center of the admonition surrounding resurrecting things in the town’s cemetery. Timmy was killed in war and shipped back to the States to be buried. He was resurrected, presumably by the wendigo, which was tied to the cursed land in Pet Sematary, along with other animals buried on those grounds. The other main connecting point between the two sources is Jud Crandall. He is an old man whose dog had been resurrected earlier in his life.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines Suggests the Eyes Are The Wendigo's Powers Pet Sematary: Bloodlines presents new lore to this franchise when it explains that the only way to kill the resurrected beings is through their eyes. While this does create an interesting plot—and leans into the zombie stereotype of aiming for the head—it also changes something about the novel's villain.

Having the eyes as the only killing point in Pet Sematary: Bloodlines implies that, when the Wendigo can see the soul and secrets of its victims, it literally sees them through the eyes of what he controls. It also implies that it can’t do either of those things without them. If the Wendigo needs resurrected creatures to see and feel, the lore of the character is different than what Stephen King intended, and it alters the Wendigo’s level of power.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines' Killing Rule Retcons Original Book's Final Death In Stephen King's novel, the final death shockingly has the protagonist, Louis Creed, killing his resurrected son, Gage Creed, after realizing the monster he has become. The boy had killed several people and doesn't appear to want or be able to stop or control his bloodlust. His father kills Gage by injecting him with morphine from his doctor's bag.
