The airline will stop flights at Newark Liberty International Airport near New York City.

American shares were down 7.8% at $31.90 around 12:30 p.m. Pacific Time. Southwest shares were up 1.1% at $55.33, recovering from a loss of as much as 4.2%. Boeing slid 3.7% to $348.11.

The Fort Worth company had record sales in the second quarter and raised its 2019 earnings forecast to at least $4.50 a share from a previous outlook of at least $4. “I would be concerned if there is any additional delay, period. I don’t care what the source of it is,” he said in an interview. As for the possibility Boeing will halt Max production, “I don’t care what they do in the background to manage their business, I just don’t want any further delays.”
