Spit-roasted lamb and crispy french fries are taking over a former brewery outpost in the Dogpatch.
Dogpatch dwellers beware : expect more consumption of Souvla’s spit-roasted lamb gyro or chicken, orange and fennel salads in your neighborhood very soon. This time, residents will be able to enjoyThe Greek fast-casual chain plans to open its fifth location in June at 2505 Third St. — and it was sort of out of the blue.
“To be honest, we weren't really looking intently for another location, this amazing space sort of fell into our lap,” said Charles Bililies, CEO and founder of Souvla. “[It was] very much a right time, right place situation.” The building was home to Magnolia Brewing Company’s second location since 2014. Barbecue fans might remember the food aspect of the business known as Smokestack. However, a rent increase forced the Magnolia team out of the large, industrial-looking Dogpatch space, according toThe corner of 22nd and Third continues to be a thriving intersection for small businesses such as Hard Knox Cafe, Dogpatch Saloon and Just For You Cafe. The new Souvla would add to that.
“Over the last eight years of Souvla, we've always kept an eye on the Dogpatch as a potential neighborhood for us,” Bililies said. “The more we explored the space and the neighborhood, the more we realized what a great opportunity we had in front of us.” Souvla’s latest iteration is slated to be its largest restaurant yet with 60 seats — far more than other locations. With ample kitchen space, it allows the culinary team to expand its menu, serving new, creative dishes that had previously only been available for catered events or through its partnership with Delta Airlines.
