NASA really wants SpaceX and Boeing to start shipping astronauts to the space station

But it’s unclear if this will happen.
But the pressure is on for the companies, as sources have told space journalists that NASA is concerned about the consequences if commercial crew doesn’t launch in the first half of 2020. One journalist even tweeted thatcould jeopardize the International Space Station, since more negotiations might be needed for seats on Russian spaceflights – and key NASA senior official Bill Gerstenmaier was removed from that duty several months ago under a larger agency reorganization for Artemis.

It’s been that way since 2011, when NASA retired its aging space shuttle amid holding several competitive rounds to figure out modern commercial replacements.
