Spain will escort to Mallorca a migrant ship that's been waiting 19 days for permission to dock on the Italian island of Lampedusa. The charity that runs the ship says at least 10 people have jumped overboard to try to get ashore.
Rome, Italy Spain said on Tuesday that it was dispatching a ship to collect migrants on a rescue vessel that has been stranded off Italy for 19 days, after at least 10 people jumped overboard in an attempt to swim ashore.
In a statement, the Spanish government said the army ship Audaz would set sail for the Italian island of Lampedusa on Tuesday afternoon and escort the migrant rescue vessel to Palma, Mallorca. The voyage to Lampedusa -- off which the migrants are moored -- would take three days, it explained.
