A Missouri special education teacher was charged with several child sex crimes and is accused of sexually exploiting a student.
On October 19, Phelps County detectives told Maries County deputies that they had gotten a tip about possible statutory sexual contact between a school employee and a student of St. James High School.
They said they met with the victim in Maries County, where he lives, on October 20. He told investigators Laughlin reached out to him on Snapchat. The boy said he made several excuses to meet her because he did not feel comfortable. He said Laughlin asked him to send her nude photos of himself on Snapchat. Investigators said Laughlin later acknowledged that she had gotten the photos.
She was arrested and taken to the Maries County Jail. Investigators said they confiscated her cell phone and were given written permission to search the contents of the phone by Laughlin.Maries County prosecutors charged her with felony counts of:Tamper or Attempt to Tamper with a Victim in a Felony ProsecutionTampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony ProsecutionLaughlin was also charged with a misdemeanor count of Furnishing Pornographic Material to a Minor.
