We chat with SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse stars Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez about Miles Morales' secret grief and the trials of raising a spider-powered teenager:
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will continue Miles Morales multiverse adventure with the newly minted Spider-Man finding his footing as a hero after taking over for his universe's Peter Parker, being mentored by an alternate Earth's Peter Parker, teaming with a group of Spider-based heroes, including Spider-Gwen, and defeating Kingpin. In this new adventure, Miles will traverse the multiverse to help a new group of Spider-based heroes who protect the multiverse from threats.
She doesn't care about the story. She just loves the visual elements. But she loves Miles, and she loves Spider-Gwen. You guys do such a phenomenal job in this film. Can you talk to me about, in your characters' eyes, how has Miles grown from the first film to the second film?Luna Lauren Vélez: And all that implies.
Brian Tyree Henry: And then I thought about how the father/son dynamic is going on, because technically Jefferson, in his own way, is a hero. And then he wears a uniform and protects these streets, and then also hears Miles doing the same thing, but yet we can't confide in each other the way that we'd like to. So it's all these different things that are going on within the Morales household of how to create that, keep our trinity together and keep it strong.
