Travel plans for spring break will be up by 30% compared to last year as travel continues to return to form after the coronavirus pandemic. Florida is the most popular domestic location for vacationers, tying in to beach vacations being the most popular choice for spring break travelers this year, according to AAA.“Travel is back, and people are taking advantage of spring break by planning adventures farther from home,” said Bevi Powell, the senior vice president of AAA East Central.
Other popular places in the U.S. include Hawaii, Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Internationally, the most popular destinations in Europe include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Rome, and Barcelona, while the most popular vacation areas in Mexico include Cancun and Riviera Maya and Mexico City.
Traveling with family also seems to be popular this year, with 40% of adults traveling for spring break planning to do so with three generations, according to a survey by AAA.While spring break vacationing is experiencing an uptick from last year, travel expenses generated from this year's spring break are also expected to be higher. Domestic air travel is expected to be at least 20% to 25% higher than in 2022, while hotel rates are expected to be at least 20% to 30% more than last year.
Travelers who wish to save money while vacationing on spring break should consider visiting destinations close to where they live, purchasing midweek flights that do not return on Sunday, and visiting states with a different spring week schedule for less crowded destinations.
