Two candidates for spot on Padres' pitching staff not sharp in their outings; Tim Lopes hits some more
Tim Lopes hit a two-run single and walked. The infielder, competing for a spot on the Padres’ bench, is batting .452 with an 1.131 OPS in 31 plate appearances. … Fernando Tatis Jr. struck out in his first two at-bats before grounding a single through the left side in the fifth inning. He also stole third base, his third steal of the spring. Tatis is 3-for-6 over his past two games after starting Cactus League play 0-for-16.
… Tim Hill, who had allowed one hit in three scoreless innings this spring, recorded just two outs Monday while giving up three runs on a home run, two singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly. … Julio Teheran, also competing for a spot as a long reliever or occasional starter, allowed at least one run in all three innings he worked. In all, he gave up five runs on five hits and a walk.
