After winning five consecutive home games, the Rockets have dropped their past three...

Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. and forward Tari Eason walk off the court at halftime at the Toyota Center on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 in Houston. San Antonio Spurs won the game 124-105.Less than a week after the Rockets could understandably debate which win was the season’s best, there is no doubt about what ranks as their worst loss.

After winning five consecutive home games, the Rockets have dropped their past three at Toyota Center, each more discouraging than the one before. The Spurs rank 28th in the NBA offensively, 26th in scoring and were playing without their leading scorer, Keldon Johnson. But as with their easy win against the Rockets in San Antonio on Dec. 8 when they were without three starters, and their leading scorer at the time, Devin Vassell, the Spurs scored with remarkable ease.

Yet, as much as the Rockets struggled offensively, things were worse on the other end, where they never slowed the onslaught. For those that missed the third quarter on Saturday but wished they saw the Rockets’ collapse, they provided a remarkable re-enactment. The problems also seemed the same. It was not just that the Rockets missed so many open looks. They also seemed frustrated, going one-on-one and forcing shots at the rim. Green missed all five of his shots in the third quarter. Porter made 2 of 9.For two games, rookie TyTy Washington Jr. checked in before Daishen Nix. On Monday, Rockets coach Stephen Silas went back to Nix as his backup point guard and was rewarded.
