Zachary Quinto gives his take on the status of Star Trek 4 during an appearance at STLV: 57-Year Mission fan convention.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Zachary Quinto offers a disappointing update on Star Trek 4, the long-delayed fourth installment of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot saga set in the alternate Kelvin timeline. Paramount Pictures had previously set a December 2023 release date for Star Trek 4, alternatively, the 14th overall film in the Star Trek movie franchise, but director Matt Shakman departed the project in 2022.
As reported by TrekMovie, Zachary Quinto was a headliner guest at STLV: 57-Year Mission where appeared on stage with his fellow Spock actor, Ethan Peck, from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Quinto was asked about the state of Star Trek 4 during his panel's Q&A. Quinto respected the SAG-AFTRA strike's rules to not discuss Star Trek in detail, but he offered his perspective on why Star Trek 4 can't seem to get off the ground.
I think there’s a lot of other stuff, creative things. It’s complicated. The fact that anything good gets made is kind of miracle. I think it’s about different people having different agendas and ideas about what it will be. And I don’t know if and when it will happen… And if coalesces again, and we come back, and we’re able to do it, wonderful. If not, we had a great run.
Why Star Trek 4 Has Taken So Long To Be Made Star Trek Beyond underperformed in 2016 compared to the haul its predecessors, Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek Into Darkness, earned at the box office. Interest in a fourth film cooled, but just a year later, Star Trek: Discovery reignited the TV franchise on streaming, and its success spawned multiple hit series on Paramount+.
Chris Pine himself suggested that Star Trek shouldn't pursue Marvel Studios-style box office, and that Star Trek 4 should be aimed towards the fanbase with a more modest budget. Currently, the state of Star Trek 4 is up in the air, as is what the storyline of the next movie could be about.
