Wes Janson debuted as Wedge Antilles’s tail gunner at the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, with a well-placed shot from the turret’s harpoon gun allowing Wedge to tie up the legs of an Imperial AT-AT.
In the Legends continuity, Wes Janson appeared in not only The Empire Strikes Back, but also an issue of Marvel’s classic Star Wars comics . Janson would go on to appear in numerous Legends-era works, such as the Shadows of the Empire multimedia project, the Star Wars: X-Wing: Rogue Squadron comics, and, most notably, the Star Wars: X-Wing novels.

Wes Janson’s signature sense of humor carries over into the new canon, as shown in Jason Fry’s short story “Rendezvous Point,” in which Janson deployed a foul-smelling tauntaun musk into the cockpit of Wedge Antilles’s X-Wing. Janson appears in two short stories within From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, pranking his fellow pilots with a revolting drink named after his friend, the late Hobbie Klivian, in Suzanne Walker’s “The Buy-In.
