Star Wars' three upcoming movies have all had their premiere dates shifted, and the first of these has notably been given a May release date.

Star Wars’ next movie is set to follow George Lucas’ old release schedule – but there could be an issue. After years of rumors and cancelations, Lucasfilm used Star Wars Celebration 2023 to announce the next three Star Wars movies. Now, however, just a few short months after the original announcement, all three upcoming Star Wars movies have had their release dates pushed.

This has led many to feel modern Star Wars is now closely linked to the holiday season, another time of year when big tentpole movies are often released with great success. So far, only one Disney Star Wars film hasn’t been released in December.

Rogue One’s earnings constituted a massive feat considering the film didn’t focus on any legacy characters and only featured what were essentially extended Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin cameos. All three sequel trilogy movies grossed over $1 billion at the box office, as well – Star Wars: The Force Awakens even earned over $2 billion.
