While Imperial Stormtroopers are often depicted as bumbling fools, one Star Wars comic depicts them as brutes who spell doom for Rebels and civilians.
Although the Star Wars franchise’s Stormtroopers are often dismissed as bumbling cannon fodder, a Legends-era comic shows that they’re truly a ruthless and frightening enemy of the Rebels and the common beings of the galaxy. Throughout the original Star Wars trilogy, Stormtroopers are generally seen fighting protagonists like Princess Leia or Han Solo, who defeat them with relative ease and seem impossible to hit with blaster bolts.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In both the post-2014 canon continuity and the Legends timeline, Stormtroopers are the elite recruited soldiers of the Galactic Empire. Although their skill in battle pales in comparison to the Republic’s Clone Troopers, the Empire’s Stormtroopers are still a well-trained and well-equipped fighting force who commit atrocities across the galaxy without question.
Considering how easily Stormtroopers are defeated by characters like Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian, viewers may forget that the Imperial soldiers wiped out a contingent of elite Rebel Troopers aboard the Tantive IV at the beginning of A New Hope and later massacred jawas and Luke’s adopted parents later in the film.
Stormtroopers are, unfortunately, nowhere near as threatening in many canon properties, such as Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian, harming their status as dangerous opponents to the Rebels. The problem with incompetent antagonists is that it removes a sense of danger for the heroes during their encounters. If more Star Wars material depicted Stormtroopers as frighteningly as Vader’s Quest does, their defeat by Rebel heroes would be far more meaningful.
