The Grand Inquisitor was once a member of the Jedi Order, though his corruption to the dark side happened before Revenge of the Sith's Order 66.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Star Wars' Grand Inquisitor had a very dark past as a corrupted Jedi, connecting to both Revenge of the Sith's Order 66 and just before during the Clone Wars as well. Like the majority of the Empire's Inquisitors, the Grand Inquisitor was once a disenfranchised member of the Jedi Order seduced into serving the Sith following the Jedi Purge.
Having received further confirmation in the new Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion The Visual Guide by Pablo Hidalgo and Emily Shkoukani along with past references, Ahsoka's final days with the Jedi Order greatly impacted the Grand Inquisitor when he was still a Jedi Temple Guard. However, this was merely the final straw as the Grand Inquisitor had already grown quite angered with the Jedi Order throughout his career.
Nevertheless, the future Grand Inquisitor remained a dutiful Jedi Temple Guard despite his anger and frustrations. That said, these resentments opened him up to be seduced and eventually corrupted to the dark side as Palpatine grew closer to enacting his master plan to end the Jedi and begin his new Empire.
The Grand Inquisitor Fell Before Order 66 Faith Was Lost After The Jedi Temple Bombing Near the end of the Clone Wars, the Jedi Council wrongly accused Ahsoka Tano of bombing the Jedi Temple. As such, Tano was forced to escape custody and clear her name with the reveal that Barris Offee was the true culprit, having embraced the dark side after becoming disenfranchised with the Jedi Order. Such was the case for many other Jedi who eventually became Darth Vader's Imperial Inquisitors.
As one of the temple guards who escorted both Ahsoka and Barris to their tribunals, the future Grand Inquisitor was very close to the major Star Wars crisis, and it's now been confirmed that this was the event that led him to lose faith in the Jedi Order completely. He was more than ready to serve Palpatine in the wake of Order 66, especially after the Emperor promised him everything the Jedi had denied.
