Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) rebutted arguments against building a wall along the United States's southern border Tuesday. She argued that Democrats know that walls work and cited the fact that a fence currently surrounds the U.S. Capitol ahead of the State of the Union.
"I can assure you that the Democrats believe in walls because they've erected one around the Capitol because President Joe Biden is delivering his State of the Union address to the country," Greene said during a hearing on the border. That’s why Democrats built one around the Capitol for Joe Biden’s State of the Union tonight. pic.twitter.com/KkY3djsk42
Greene has long been an unabashed advocate of constructing a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, a major 2016 campaign pledge by former President Donald Trump. Other conservative lawmakers also used the fence as"proof" that Democrats, including Biden, supported walls in general. Another congressman, Rep. Lance Gooden , claimed that if the U.S. could place a wall around the Capitol, it could build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
