The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has issued a warning to pedestrians to stay out of the construction zone at the bridge on Route 75 at Port Royal.
The railroad bridge on Route 75 in Port Royal, Juniata County, was closed this spring and will remain closed during the summer of 2023 so it can be replaced. PennDOT has issued a warning that pedestrians in the construction zone are trespassing. PennDOT also will provide flaggers to ease congestion in the area during races at Port Royal Speedway on July 1 and 3, 2023.
The bridge on Route 75 over Norfolk Southern Railroad in the borough was closed this spring so it can be replaced.said it is “again urging pedestrians not to pass safety fencing, caution tape, or other barricades within this active work zone. The work zone is off-limits to anyone except authorized personnel in the interest of ensuring public safety.”
PennDOT said that anyone found trespassing in the work zone, “whether during work hours or after dark, will be escorted out” by state police. The detour around the construction zone uses Route 3002 , Route 35, and Route 333 before returning to Route 75. Homeowners near the bridge are able to access their properties, PennDOT said.For the upcoming Fourth of July 2023 holiday weekend, PennDOT said flaggers will be working to help alleviate expected congestion for races at Port Royal Speedway. The flaggers will be there on July 1 and 3, PennDOT said.
“PennDOT anticipates increased traffic at the intersection of Routes 35 and 333 on race days due to the ongoing bridge replacement project along Route 75 in Port Royal Borough, and flagging will help alleviate some of the congestion.”
