After more than $68 million was slashed in the current school year’s aid, $51.1 million is being proposed trimmed for the 2023-24 school year, the largest reduction in aid in the state by far. The district’s proposed aid is $133.6 million, $93 million less than Union City’s appropriation. “This aid is much needed in Bayonne,” Superintendent John Niesz said. “This school year our student population has increased over 500 students. ... This funding will help with assisting our classroom instruction, mental health services, social services, programming, hiring faculty, counselors, and staff, providing services for our special education students and our English language learners.”
