Stay hydrated: Extreme heat will scorch San Antonio. With humidity compounding the effect of air temperatures, the National Weather Service expects heat index values of up to 111 degrees.
A cotton field is harvested on Wednesday, July, 27 2022 in Mission, Texas. Heat indices could reach as high as 110 degrees in the coming days, according to the National Weather Service.San Antonio. The extreme heat is back.
Heat index values — or what the air temperature feels like when you factor in humidity — could reach as high as 111 degrees on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity, or excessive moisture in the air, makes it harder for sweat to evaporate, which is your body's way of cooling itself down. Such conditions can make Tuesday's projected high of 98 degrees feel more like triple-digit temperatures. However, even as heat increases in coming days, that humidity is expected to drop off, according to Keith White, a lead weather service forecaster in the New Braunfels office that serves San Antonio.
"Most days will be similar to today in terms of heat index values, fluctuating by a degree or two," White said."It was more humid over the past few days than it will be on Friday, when temperatures are set to max out." Another day, another Heat Advisory. This time it includes portions of the Southern Rio Grande Plains, I35 Corridor, and Coastal Plains. Afternoon heat index values at or above 108 degrees can be expected. Take appropriate heat precautions if outdoors!
