WASHINGTON—A former British intelligence officer whose research the FBI used to obtain a surveillance warrant on Tuesday disputed key elements of a U.S. government watchdog report highly critical of the agency.
Christopher Steele, who had been hired to research Mr. Trump’s ties to Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign, rejected the FBI’s classification of him as a “source” and disputed the report’s criticism of him for speaking to the media in a lengthy statement issued by his attorneys.
