Selected residents of Palm Springs, California, have just over a week before a guaranteed income program begins paying $800 every month.
The program, which is being run by nonprofit organizations Queer Works and DAP Health, selected 30 recipients earlier this year in March and will begin the 18-month-long pay schedule on May 15. The recipients of this program will be free to spend this monthly payment in any way they see fit, according to Queer Works.
To have been eligible for this program, applicants needed to have an income of no more than 30% of the median income of Riverside County, which is equal to $16,600. Additionally, applicants needed to be clients of either Queer Works and/or DAP Health and be considered primary residents of Palm Springs, California.
