Applications for a guaranteed income program in El Monte, California, are open for another five days, with the program promising up to $500 monthly payments to selected residents.
The program is intended to aid mothers and will see 125 applicants selected for the program in the city, which is home to more than 100,000 people.The application for the program has been open since March 27 and will close on April 15, per the city's website.
"Individuals selected to participate in the program will be issued a debit card," a city manager's office representative told the Washington Examiner."Every month, the city will load $500 on the debit card. Individuals can use it to pay for goods and services at any location that accepts debit cards. The city will provide training on how to use the debit card for participants.
The recipients of this guaranteed income program will be selected by April 26, with the city expecting the first payment will be sent out on June 1.In order to be eligible, an applicant must live in El Monte, be a single female head of household with no spouse or partner in the house, and have children younger than 17 years old.
