Occasional money bonuses and outfit discounts in Red Dead Online can't hide that Rockstar Games is no longer interested in its progress. The multiplayer component for Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online has gone close to a year without major content updates, and the developer has given no reassurances that it will change any time soon.
Red Dead Online launched November 27, 2018, a month after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2's critically-acclaimed story mode. It had players create their own outlaws - and even recreate iconic Western film characters in RDO - to embark on adventures alone or with friends. Also included in the multiplayer was a smaller story. Titled A Land of Opportunity, this story centers around a revenge plot hatched by Jessica LeClerk.
Red Dead Online Is Being Neglected While GTA Gets New Updates Since Red Dead Online's release, the game has received three big updates. Those updates include Frontier Pursuits , Moonshiners, and Blood Money - the latter two of which spotlighted criminal activities. The Naturalist and Bounty Hunters updates, while extensions of the roles, did not add nearly as much as the other three.
Red Dead Online fans have been vocal about their frustration, but Rockstar has yet to publicly acknowledge it. On social media, the hashtag"#SaveRedDeadOnline" became a trend in an effort to bring attention to the issue. Before that, players dressed up their in-game characters like clowns as a form of protest. In response to this, Rockstar simply tweets about upcoming XP and money bonuses as if everything is fine. The responses to these announcements are always less than positive.
With no new Red Dead Online updates in 2022 to look forward to, the future of the game is bleak. Leaked game files early ahead of release hinted at grand plans, but those have seemingly been scrapped. GTA Online, conversely, can look forward to another year of updates from Rockstar, with no sign of closure for Red Dead Online on the horizon.
