Oasis Outback, an outdoor supply store and gunship is seen Wednesday May 25, 2022 in Uvalde, Texas. Sources tell the San Antonio Express-News Salvador Rolando Ramos, 18, bought the guns he used in a shooting spree at Robb Elementary School to kill 19 children and two teachers at Oasis Outback shortly after his 18th birthday.
“That’s very significant, and it’s close to the border so you know where it’s going,” said Davy Aguilera, a retired agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms who previously led the ATF office in San Antonio. “It’s obviously going to a bad guy to sell, transport or to use it. The general public is not going to buy that much.”In fact, there are few laws restricting the ammo trade.
“Ammunition background checks, minimum age laws, and other commonsense policies regulating the sale and transfer of ammunition are important ways to keep deadly power away from those who threaten the safety of others,” the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence says on its website. “Recent calls for federal regulations and restrictions on ammunition sales ignore the failure of such laws in the past,” NRA officials said. “They also ignore the impracticality of imposing and enforcing similar controls in today’s huge ammunition market.”
