Repairs of storm damage to overhead wires and support structures on the Morris & Essex lines in Maplewood means NJ Transit will continue to operate modified rail service on that line and suspend Gladstone Branch service
The service outage affects 22 stations in Morris, Somerset, Union and Essex Counties on the M&E and Gladstone Branch that will be without service through the end of the service day on Friday, officials said.
Customers at stations between Hackettstown and Denville should use Montclair-Boonton Line trains and should consult the Montclair-Boonton timetables.will operate on the Montclair-Boonton Line. Customer service ambassadors will be available at South Orange rail station to help passengers. M&E and Gladstone Branch tickets and passes will continue to be cross-honored on NJ Transit Raritan Valley Line and Montclair-Boonton Line trains, on NJ Transit buses and private carrier buses.
There may be additional schedule modifications for Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13. Announcements will be made on or before Friday. Thunderstorms and high winds from a storm Monday night brought a large tree down across the M&E tracks in Maplewood, which damaged steel structures that support electric catenary wire that powers trains.
