Deer Park eliminated with 4-0 loss in Region III semifinals
Deer Park's Cristian Orozco reflects the unhappiness of the moment after the team was eliminated from the playoffs by Katy Seven Lakes Friday night.It would have been a darn shame if Katy Seven Lakes High School’s opening goal less than 90 seconds into the soccer match would have been the goal that sent Deer Park home.
“This is the first Seven Lakes team to make the regional final. We’re proud of what we’ve done, but the job’s not finished. We were 0-3 in regional semifinals and we finally made it through,” Seven Lakes player Javier Rivas said. The goals were scored by Aidan Morrison, Noa Stasic and Hunter Merritt. Morrison found the back of the net twice. In addition to the goal at the 38:36 mark, Spartan goals were also delivered with 15 minutes remaining in the first half and with 5:44 left. The only second-half goal was kicked home with 5:47 remaining.
Our keeper was solid in these type of matches and that’s what you need. When you’re up 2-0, 3-0, it doesn’t really matter if the other team finds a goal. All of a sudden, there’s new life. That’s the big thing. You want to kill that opportunity for new life. He did everything that was asked of him tonight. You don’t want a mistake that could create a momentum change,” Seven Lakes head coach Jimmy Krueger said.
