You've heard of strawberry blonde? Meet its brunette counterpart.
hasn't been on-trend. The gorgeous light-red hair color has been the go-to hue for blondes who don't want to go full redhead and redheads who don't want to go full blonde. But at last, brunettes can finally get in on the ever-so-subtly red fun. The hashtags #strawberrybrunette and #strawberrybrown are trending on Instagram, and they show how stylists are giving their brunette clients a splash of red without the intensity of auburn or burgundy.
Where strawberry blonde shades tend to lean peachy, stylists appear to be adding rosy, pink-red hues to brown hair to create the strawberry brunette look. Instead of well-defined highlights, it's more like a wash of juicy color that softly pops with the base color's natural variations. According to Singapore stylist, who created the look below, that balance is due to a glossing treatment done with a combination of shades like lilac, violet, and pink.
And as you can see from the other Instagram examples below, strawberry brunette looks gorgeous on both light and darker shades of brown. "For this absolutely gorgeous strawberry brunette we did a color melt using Pravana’s cool coppers, fashion browns, and a dash of ash to bring it to a wearable rich color," California-based colorist Sona Jane tells— and perhaps she can be credited with kicking it off. Back in April, she shared a photo on Instagram of the barely-there pinkish-red tint in her warm, medium-brown hair, writing "Strawberry feels forever," in the caption.
