Police said there was no evidence the 17-year-old boy ever had access to a firearm.
PALO ALTO — Police on Thursday arrested a student on suspicion of threatening to “shoot up” a Palo Alto High School classroom earlier this week.
Just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the campus at 50 Embarcadero Road after a teachertaped to the front door of their classroom, according to the Palo Alto Police Department. “The threat indicated that the person who left the note intended to ‘shoot up’ the classroom later that morning,” police said in a statement, adding that a final exam was scheduled to take place in the room.
Students and school employees were told to shelter in place until 10:30 a.m. when an initial investigation ended. Further investigation by police and school officials led to the identification of a 17-year-old male student as a suspect, according to police. On Thursday, the boy was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and released to the custody of family members.
