The research indicates that we likely had two planets in the same solar system operating in a plate tectonic regime

Venus may have once had a few plates that moved slowly and occasionally, like on Earth. And this may have happened on both planets simultaneously, about 4.5 billion to 3.5 billion years ago. The study also suggests that plate tectonics on planets may depend on timing — and so may life itself. The researchers say this concept is vital for exploring other worlds — such as Jupiter's moon Europa, which has evidence of plate tectonics — and distant exoplanets.
