Behind freshman forward Brooke Atkins' hat trick, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Clear Falls 3-1 in a Region III-6A area round game Tuesday night at Summer Creek High School.“They back each other up and have a lot of chemistry,” Cobb said of her team. “I think that gives them a lot of confidence going forward. They're doing something that has never been done before here at this school, and it has been special. I think the girls were focused and wanted to protect their home turf.
Summer Creek will take on Clear Lake in the regional quarterfinals at a date and time to be determined. Clear Lake defeated Beaumont West Brook 3-2 on penalty kicks in its area round game.“I just do my best for my team,” Atkins said. “If I don’t get a goal, I just brush it off to help someone else get a goal or just play defense. I feel like I can get an assist or make a play on defense that will lead to a goal. It’s all about helping the team.
“It feels really good to have the hat trick since we have never made it past the first round,” Atkins said. “It feels good to help my team out, and I don’t score those goals without my teammates.” Cobb has watched Atkins grow throughout the season, and her confidence is high, even as a freshman playing her first varsity season.
