Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) warned that supporting Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024 could end up giving the presidency to the other party.

Sununu shared his insights from the first Republican primary debate earlier this week during a television interview that aired Sunday. He told host Jen Psaki of MSNBC's Inside with Jen Psaki that while he didn't agree with every candidate onstage, namely the youngest Vivek Ramaswamy, a vote against Trump was better than one for him."I can tell you all those candidates could win in November of '24, and that's exciting. Donald Trump can't win in November of '24.

Sununu admitted that Ramaswamy, in particular, presented policy ideas that"were a challenge" to him personally. The Republican governor wasn't sure if Ramaswamy's policies"connected with the Republican base." According to Sununu, Ramaswamy, Mike Pence, and Nikki Haley"did very, very well" during the debate. The three were in the top five for speaking times in the debate that featured eight total candidates.Trump was notably absent from the first Republican primary debate, despite meeting the polling and financial contribution requirements. Instead, he opted to be interviewed by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson in a video that aired at the same time as the debate Wednesday.

In addition to Ramaswamy, Pence, and Haley, Trump is facing off against former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, Sen. Tim Scott , Gov. Doug Burgum , Gov. Ron DeSantis , Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, political commentator Larry Elder, and businessman Perry Johnson in the race to win the GOP presidential nomination.
