In a new ruling, the Supreme Court made it easier for California companies to resolve disputes with employees through private arbitration

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court made it easier for California companies to resolve disputes with employees through private arbitration, partially overturning a state court decision that allowed some workers to sidestep arbitration and address issues in court.

In a narrowly drawn 8-1 ruling, the high court Wednesday said Viking River Cruises Inc. could arbitrate a wage-theft claim by a former sales representative who was seeking damages on behalf of similarly situated workers.
