Person in critical condition after East Side shooting involving police

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the 3000 and 3100 blocks of East Livingston Avenue, near James Road.Jeff Simpson, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the officer and deputy were not believed to be injured.

FCSO & CPD are investigating a Deputy involved shooting near James Rd & E Livingston Ave. No officers or Deputies were injured, however the suspect was transported to Grant Medical Center. No further details at this time.The person who was shot, to whom the sheriff's office referred as a"suspect," was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where they later died.

As of about 9:20 p.m., at least eight police cruisers were at the scene, and part of East Livingston Avenue was closed between James and South Hampton roads. Just after 10 p.m., Brian Steel, a Columbus police officer and executive vice president of Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9, addressed news media at the scene:

"Bad things happen when you try to confront the police with a weapon," Steel said, without directly addressing specifics of the latest shooting involving police."We're quickly turning into the city that never sleeps."of two suspects in a Thursday crime spree and shootout that left a Columbus police officer injured.
