On Thursday, authorities said they jailed a suspect in the cold case after a Tuscaloosa County grand jury indicted a 49-year-old man on murder charges. “For the past year, investigators with the [Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s] Violent Crimes Unit worked diligently, re-evaluated evidence, located numerous persons who were determined to be witnesses to the original case, and then presented their findings to a grand jury,” said Capt. Jack Kennedy with the unit.Jowers, 32, was walking a woman to her car about 2:20 a.m. on Oct. 13, 1996, when someone shot him in the head outside Classic’s Lounge on 37th Street East..
