Zemarion Winters, 19, is accused of killing Ermias Tassew in Dallas then leaving his body in Plano, an affidavit says.
Ermias Mekonnen Tassew, 41, was identified as the victim. He was reported as a missing person out of Garland when police discovered his body, which was in an “advanced stage of decomposition,” according to the affidavit.
During the investigation, Plano detectives reached out to neighboring law enforcement agencies because it appeared Tassew may have been shot elsewhere, and Dallas police replied saying officers responded to a shooting call about 4 a.m. July 30 at Royal Park and found a pool of blood and shell casings but no victim, the affidavit says.
Although he initially denied doing so, Winters told police during an interview that he shot Tassew, according to the affidavit. An officer wrote in the arrest warrant that Winters said Tassew approached him while he was at a DART station in Dallas and offered him a ride but the situation escalated once the two were in Tassew’s car and “Winters advised he was terrified.”“That’s when it happened, that’s where he died at, I can’t believe I killed someone’s son, brother,” the affidavit quotes Winters as saying.
