The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Monday in Pequannock Township in Morris County.
One man was killed early Monday when the SUV he was driving collided with a garbage truck on Route 23 North in Morris County, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. in Pequannock Township. Arriving patrol officers found both vehicles on fire, according to township police. “The driver of the garbage truck and a good Samaritan had both removed the unconscious driver from the Chevy Traverse prior to police arrival,” Pequannock Township police said in a statement.
Police officers and medical workers attempted to revive the unconscious driver of the SUV, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name has not been released. Route 23 North remained closed for an accident investigation and police did not say when they expected the highway to reopen.
