The NFL competition committee is reviewing whether the tackle should be banned during its meetings at the scouting combine this week. A decision on the hip drop tackle, where a defender grabs a ball carrier by the hips then brings him down on his legs, won’t occur this upcoming season but league officials are looking into data regarding the tackle and the number of injuries caused by it.was also injured on a similar tackle during the AFC playoffs, but not as severely.

“And so, the way that we went about it thus far was to take a look at high ankle sprains,” said Jeff Miller, the NFL’s executive vice president of public affairs and policy for health and safety initiatives. “Which we know is a really problematic injury, the time loss injury for players and studied that for a subset of plays and said, ‘OK here’s what we see.

Despite the injury, Pollard is expected to be ready at some point during training camp and the health issue isn’t expected to impact his pending free agency. Cowboys’ officials are considering placing the franchise tag on Pollard, which would secure his services for the 2023 season at $10.09 million.
