Alex Guarnaschelli gave us a tour of her Hamptons home, and shared her best kitchen design rules.
Once the martinis have been polished off, Guarnaschelli shifts everyone into the dining room. It’s not a big group, but Guarnaschelli can easily sit up to 18 people because she has three separate dining room tables. “They’re all cut from the same piece of wood,” she says, “but instead of one big table, I can mix and match the tables like Legos. I can make one superlong table, I can do a perfect square, or I can break the tables up for smaller parties.
The table is set for six, and everyone makes their way to the dining room for Guarnaschelli’s juicy pork loin and roasted broccoli topped with a sautéed broccoli stem vinaigrette. Pink twilight pours in through the giant windows, warming the room. After a boisterous toast, Guarnaschelli turns her head to the kitchen and the big window over the stove. She quiets for a moment, taking it in—her space, and the light.
