Taylor Swift's 'Soon You'll Get Better' Is About Her Mom's Cancer (via PopCrush)
released her most heartwrenching song yet with "Soon You'll Get Better," off her seventh studio album,"I know delusion when I see it in the mirror / You like the nicer nurses, you make the best of a bad deal / I just pretend it isn't real / I'll paint the kitchen neon, I'll brighten up the sky / I know I'll never get it, there's not a day that I won't try," Swift sings on the second verse.
The song, which features the Dixie Chicks, is a return to her acoustic country roots, featuring breathy vocals and her signature guitar. You hear the pain in Swift's vocals and the subtle sigh of defeat when she sings "soon you'll get better, 'cause you have to." During her live stream on Thursday , Swift spoke about the hardest song she created. “There's a song called 'Soon You'll Get Better' on this album that was really really hard to write and it was also like a family decision whether to put it on the album," she shared.
"I think songs like that, that are really hard for you to write emotionally... maybe they're really hard to write and sing because they're really true. So we as a family decided to put this on the album and it's something I'm so proud of. I still can't sing it, it's hard to emotionally deal with that song."
Swift first revealed that her mother, Andrea Swift, was diagnosed with cancer in a 2015 Tumblr post. In 2019, she shared that the cancer had returned in anThis isn't the first time Swift has written a song about her mother. She previously wrote "The Best Day" for her 2008 album,. The song tells the story of Swift being bullied at school and her mother cheering her up.
