Team USA's Covid-19 vaccination rate lags behind that of most other large Olympic nations, ranking 14th out of 17 major Olympic committees (corrects an earlier tweet, now deleted, that said the U.S. ranked 15th)

TOKYO—Team USA athletes’ vaccination rate of 85.5% seems wildly successful by public-health standards, and far better than the overall U.S. rate of 57% of people who have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

In the context of the world’s other prominent national Olympic committees, however, the U.S. doesn’t sniff the vaccination-rate medal stand. Ten national Olympic committees said that 94% or more of their Olympic athletes have been vaccinated, and two of those said they had reached 100%, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of 25 of the largest delegationsAmong Olympic committees that responded to the survey, the U.S. ranked 14th out of 17, placing ahead of Poland, the Czech Republic and Russia.

Most national organizing committees reported an overall vaccination rate, which could include athletes who have received one shot of a two-dose vaccine.
