KEW GARDENS HILLS, Queens --It happened just before 3 p.m. Thursday near a high school on 77-53 Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills.
Police say the 18-year-old was shot four times in the torso. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he later died.Residents nearby are rattled and frustrated by the violence. "I see someone on the ground huddled up and there was a younger adult up there saying 'wake up, wake up' trying to move him. The person on the ground did not move one inch," said Michael Moreno.
The victim was a student at North Queens Community High School just around the corner from where he was shot. Investigators believe he was attacked by a group as he was leaving school in what was an apparent targeted shooting."I am also heartbroken for the city of New York, who lost a bright young soul today to a senseless act of gun violence... we will be increasing security and supports at this school and will be making available emotional supports to any student or staff member who needs it."
